***WARNING*** This walkthrough contains spoilers***

I have broken this walkthrough into sections to make it easier for those who require help for specific areas of the game.  You can use the links at left to navigate to the specific area you require help on.  You can also read through this walkthrough from start to finish to find out how I completed the game.

Please note that there may be more than one way to solve a task.  I list only how I completed the task.  Please don't take this to mean that you have to complete tasks the same way.  Feel free to experiment.

INTRODUCTION

I have found it nearly impossible to find any information online for Westward.  What I did manage to find was either helpful or vague.  Most sites that lists information for Westward is merely a bulletin board or comment style site with everyone asking the same questions and few, if any, answers to those questions.  Some of the most common questions I've found were:

Where are Wong's goons?
I can't figure out how to deliver the $1000 ransom.
All of my men keep getting killed while trying to protect the bank.
My sheriff keeps getting killed and I have to restart the level.
How do I provide enough food and water for my people?

There are many, many more questions and hopefully I'll be able to answer all of these throughout this walkthrough.

Please do NOT repost this walkthrough without obtaining permission from me.

I will include maps and pictures whenever possible so please allow time for this page to load completely.

One thing I can't stress enough is to save your game OFTEN.  Use a different save slot each time then when you run out of save slots, start overwrite from the first save slot.  Many people experience glitches and/or "loops" in this game, so save at the start and end of each level, task, and mini quest.

Okay, ready to get started?

CAMP CHIPPEWA

The first level you start on is Camp Chippewa.  It is designed as a tutorial to help you learn the controls of the game and how to do certain things.

The main part of the screen is the game play area.  You can drag your citizens elsewhere, place buildings, check the repair on buildings, etc. from this area.  We'll go more in-depth with this later on.

If you can make out the numbers on the arrows (sorry for the dark coloring), #1 is the button you click on to display a map of the area.  Note that if you have not fully explored the area, you'll notice black areas on the map.  Explore those areas to reveal them on the map.

#2 is your task list.  Click on this button to display a list of tasks that need completed.

#3 is the important information section.  Whenever something needs attention, an icon will appear in this area.  An exclamation point usually means someone wants to talk or you have a side task to take care of.  A house means there is a citizen without a home.  A drumstick (chicken?) means someone is hungry.  A hammer means a building needs repaired.  A water drop means a well or water tank needs to be built somewhere.  By clicking on these icons, the screen will pan to the area that needs your attention.  If, for instance, you see two hands shaking (red and blue), it means someone is without a job.  Click the icon to go to that person then click (and hold) to drag him/her to a place of business.  If there is an opening there, the handshake icon will show at the building.  Drop (release mouse button) the person onto the building to hire him/her.  However, if you see the handshake icon with a number 2 beside it, that means there are two people without employment.  Click once on the icon to go to the first person then click again on the icon to go to the second person.  For any of these icons, you can click repeatedly to rotate through the list.

#4 is where you can access buildings.  If you have enough gold and wood, you'll be able to build.  Some buildings require others before they can be built.  For example, you cannot build a Town Hall without a Sheriff's Office first.  Shadowed areas here are buildings you have yet to unlock, usually by performing certain tasks.  Buildings that appear with a padlock on them means that you either do not have enough gold and wood to build it or that the building requires something else before it can be built.  Hover your cursor over the building and you'll see a list of requirements for it.

#5 is your toolbox.  Whenever you purchase items like dynamite, bridges, and irrigation tools, they will be placed in your toolbox.  To use them, click on the toolbox button, select the item you want to use then click on the game area to use the item.

#6 is the main menu where you can save your game, load a previously saved game, restart the game, change sound and display options, or quit the game.

#7 is your compass to show which direction you're heading.

#8 is a very convenient quick scroll button for your gunslingers, deputies, and sheriffs.  Each click of this button will pan the screen to one of your fighters.  This is especially useful when you're creating a group.  You can click this button repeated to make sure everyone is all together in the same area then drag a box around them all (looks like a lasso) to make them a group.  From there, you only need to drag one of them to an area and all of the others will follow.

#9 is also a quick scroll button but it allows you to scroll through all of your citizens.

The square at the bottom of the screen (marked Options Area in the above picture) is not always available.  If you click on the Build button, you'll find a list of buildings that you can build in this area.  Clicking on a person will display information about that person such as name, where he/she lives and works, etc.

Okay, so your first task is to click on the exclamation mark above Emmett Smithson's head.  He'll tell you about the bandits.  Then you'll be asked to open up the task list.  Next, click on the exclamation mark above the Sheriff's head.  This process will be called "talk" for the remainder of this walkthrough.  So when I say talk to the Sheriff, that means to click on the exclamation mark above his head in the play area of the screen (most of the top of the screen).  You'll then have to drag the Sheriff over to a dry area.  This is done by clicking on him and holding the left mouse button down while moving the cursor to the spot where you want him to go then releasing the left mouse button.  For the remainder of this walkthrough, this process will be referred to as "drag."  Now you learn that you can move the screen by placing your cursor at the edge of the screen where it will change into an arrow and scroll in the direction your cursor is positioned at.  Note that you are able to scroll while dragging.  Drag the Sheriff over to the indicated spot.  Now you'll learn about the map button.  Next talk to Bolivar Donner.  Now you learn about forming groups.  Click and drag your cursor to create a box-style lasso around the people you want in the group.  Then you can drag one person from the group to a new location and the others in the group will follow.  This will be called "group" throughout this walkthrough.  Group your Sheriff and Deputies then drag them to the indicated spot.  You will then automatically scroll toward the bandits.  You'll learn that you need to drag a Sheriff or Deputy (or Gunslinger) over to a bandit and your cursor will change to a gun.  The person you dragged will automatically begin shooting at the bandit.  Note that once bandits are close enough, or you drag a fighter close enough to bandits, they will generally start fighting on their own.  The bar over your character's head shows his health.  Keep an eye on this.  If one gets too low, drag someone else to the front of the group.  You can deselect a group by creating a lasso box around a single individual.  This is useful when you're trying to protect someone, like the Sheriff, where you can select only him and move him to safety while everyone else continues to fight.  When in a gunfight, you'll notice a gun icon appear in the important information area.  Clicking on this icon will rotate your view to display all of your characters in the fight.  This is especially useful when you have more than one group fighting.  Clicking on this icon repeatedly will scroll through all of the characters you have fighting so that you can quickly pan to each person to check their health.  Now you'll need to talk to the Mayor.  That will end the first tutorial.

For the second tutorial, you'll learn how to build up a town and keep it repaired.  Now you'll notice a bar across the top of your screen.

The first part shows people.  In the above example, it shows 1/2 beside the picture of two people.  This means that I have 1 citizen and can currently have a maximum of 2 citizens.  To increase the maximum amount you can have, you'll need to build houses, farms, camps, hotels, etc.
The second picture of food has 35/35 beside it.  This means I have 35 pieces of food and can have a maximum of 35 pieces of food.  You can increase the maximum amount you can have by building things like windmills, farms and ranches.  You can also buy food from a trading post or pick berries from bushes or fruit from trees.
The third picture is of a water faucet followed by the numbers 35/35.  This means I have 35 rations of water and can hold a maximum of 35 rations.  You can increase the maximum amount you can have by building wells and water towers.
The fourth picture shows a gold coin and shows how much gold you have.  You can find piles of gold laying around the area.

You can also set up mining camps, gold mines, a town hall, etc., to increase this amount.
The final picture shows a wooden plank and the amount of wood you currently have.  You need wood to build structures.  You can increase this number by building lumber camps, lumber mills or looking for piles of wood lying on the ground.  You can also buy wood from a trading post.

Now you'll be asked to drag your character over to the pile of gold.  Your cursor will change to a hand holding a sack icon.  This is called "grabbing."  Grab the gold then talk to the Mayor.  You'll then need to go around collecting gold.  At this time, I would recommend dragging your character all over the map in order to rid it of the black areas, which are unexplored areas.  You can explore areas (which removes the black "fog") by dragging a character over to the "fog" and continue this until all of the black "fog" is gone.  You can check your map to locate all of the "fog" areas.  If you get the exclamation bubble to talk to the Mayor again, you can temporarily ignore this while you finish ridding the area of "fog" but make sure you do come back and talk to the Mayor then.  You can check your mini map to make sure you have the area cleared.

You cannot build on areas that have not been cleared of the "fog" so always try to explore an area as soon as you possibly can.  In the above example, exploring the area shows a gold mine in the upper right corner which will come in handy for getting more money.  If I hadn't explored the area, I might have completely missed this gold mine.

Now go back and talk to the Mayor.  Remember you can click on the exclamation point icon in the important information area of the screen to go immediately to that task; the Mayor, in this example.
After talking to the Mayor, you'll find out about wood.  Go collect the four piles of wood.  You'll then be informed of how you can start repairing the buildings.  Drag your character over to the bank and you'll see your cursor change to a hammer.  Drop your character on the bank and he'll begin repairing it.  When your cursor changes to a hammer, you'll get an information box that will tell you how much wood and money it will cost to repair that building.  In this example, it will cost 45 wood and 45 gold.  Note that when you drag characters about, they often get stuck behind a tree, a person, a building, etc.  This can be very frustrating.  Make sure you drag a character shorter distances to avoid this happening.  It's much less frustrating to drag a character three or four times to get him/her to the destination than it is to try to find a route out of a group of trees.
Once the repairs are completed, talk to the Mayor again.  You'll have to go talk to the Prospector at the Lumber Mill next.  Usually, when you come close enough to a character that you cannot control, an exclamation point will appear above their head.  Talk to the prospector.  Now you'll have to go to that gold vein up in the northeastern part of the area.  Now you have access to a mining camp.  Under buildings, select the mining camp and place it in the play area of your screen.  Make sure the entire area is green or you will not be able to place it.  Daniel will automatically start building the camp.  Whenever you add a building, a citizen will automatically go to the site and begin building.  Once the camp is built, go back and talk to the prospector.  Go talk to the Mayor.  Note that whenever you need to talk to someone, you do NOT have to drag a character over to them.  Simply click on the explanation point over their head.  Now talk to Esmerelda.  You now need to move both Daniel and Esmerelda to the right side of the screen.  This is easiest by getting the two close together then dragging a lasso around them to make them a group.  Then drag one of them over to the east road and the other will automatically follow.  Congratulations!  Tutorial 2 is now completed.

Chippewa Woods

In tutorial 3, you'll learn how to take care of your citizens.  You'll start your own settlement now in Chippewa Woods.  Start by talking to Daniel.  Your first task is to collect berries from two berry bushes.  After you complete this task, talk to Daniel.  Now you'll need to convert the covered wagon to a wagon camp.  Click on the covered wagon.  You'll now see a new option at the bottom of your screen.

Click on the Make Camp button then place the wagon camp just as you would any other building.  Make sure the entire camp is green in order to place it.
Now drag Daniel and Esmerelda to the wagon camp.  Your cursor will change to a house icon.  Daniel and Esmerelda will move into the wagon camp.  Now you'll need to build a well so Daniel and Esmerelda have water.  Talk to Daniel and you'll find out that you don't have enough wood to build a farm.  Click on the wagon and convert it to a lumber camp.

When you click on the wagon camp, you'll notice additional icons above the description of the wagon camp.  One will convert the camp back to a covered wagon; one will turn the camp into a lumber camp, and the last one will convert the wagon to a mining camp.  Click on the lumber camp icon.  Now you'll need to drag Daniel to the lumber camp so he can get to work.  Next drag Esmerelda to the camp.  If you click on the lumber camp, you'll notice a dotted line going from the camp to a line of trees.  When the area of trees that are currently being cut are exhausted, you'll need to pick another grove of trees.  Click on the icon to set the area for cutting when the area you were cutting is gone.

Now if you check your mini map, you'll notice a lot of areas covered by the black "fog."  It's time to drag Esmerelda around to explore the area and get rid of that "fog."  Collect gold and wood as you go along.  You'll find a gold mine and a collapsed gold mine along your journey.  You'll also find an outhouse to the southwest.  You may have to collect some berries along your way (keep an eye on your food supply).  There are two areas you will not be able to get to explore.  One is the lower right, across the river and the other is the upper left corner, across another river.  Don't worry about these areas.  Go back to your camp and build a farm.  It doesn't really matter where you place the farm but typically, you'll want to consider a layout for your town since you'll be adding more buildings later.  Once the farm is built, your maximum food capacity will rise.  Now you'll need to click on Esmerelda.  You'll notice a new icon on the bottom right that resembles a whistle.

This is the quit button.  Any employed citizen can quit their job.  For example, if your population is low and you have three workers at a farm but no workers at a lumber camp, you can select one of the farm workers and have him/her quit then drag him/her to the lumber camp to have him/her work there instead.
Click on Esmerelda's quit button then drag her over to the farm.  Your cursor will show the work icon, two hands shaking.  Esmerelda will now begin working on the farm.  Now you sit and wait for new settlers to appear.  You can drag a new settler to either the farm or the lumber camp where they will live and work.  Click on a building to see the workers and housed citizens.  When a building is full, it can no longer house or employ citizens so you'll need to move new settlers into other buildings or build new places for them to live and work.  For now, you can place your first new arrival at the farm.  A covered wagon will appear.  You'll want to convert this wagon into a mining camp near the gold mine that you found earlier.  Once you've converted the wagon into a wagon camp, click on the wagon then click on the pickaxe icon to convert it to a mining camp.  Take your next new arrival and have him/her live and work at the mining camp.  Rotate any new arrivals between the farm, the lumber camp, and the mining camp.  Your goal is to earn 400 gold to pay back the Mayor of Chippewa.  If you collected the gold piles while exploring the area, you should already be well on your way to having enough gold to pay back your loan.  Once you have enough gold, the Mayor of Chippewa will appear.  He'll ask if you are ready to pay back your loan.  Go ahead and pay him.  That completes tutorial 3.

It's now time to head to Hope River.

Hope River

Start off by talking to Maureen.  You'll then need to click on the exclamation point in the important information area.  Talk to Israel and find out that you've been swindled.  Now click on the exclamation mark again and talk with Clyde.  It appears the Russian swindled other people as well.  Clyde needs 40 food.  Click on the exclamation mark again and talk with Jack.  Jack was swindled as well.  He needs 250 wood.  If you check your task list, you'll see these two tasks listed.  So, the first thing we should do is build a lumber camp near a grove of trees.  Employ Marion at the lumber camp then build a well followed by a farm.  Put Maureen and Israel to work at the farm then drag Maureen around to explore the area.  Make sure you grab any wood, gold, and berries (if needed) while you're exploring.  Remember that any food over your maximum capacity will only be wasted so only collect what you absolutely have to have.

As you play through Hope River, you'll notice that you'll receive little side tasks to complete.  I refer to these side tasks as mini quests.

***********************************************************************************************************************
** Spoilers **

Collect 250 wood:

Set up a lumber camp and employ Marion there.  Drag Maureen around the map collecting piles of wood.

************************************************************************************************************************

Collect 40 food:

Build a farm and employ Israel there.  You can drag Maureen around to collect berries from bushes and fruit from trees but make sure you leave some for later.  If you build a ranch (requires a general store to be built first), you can accomplish this task quickly.  You can also build a windmill to increase your maximum food capacity.  Once you give Clyde 40 food rations, you'll have none left for your citizens so gather some berries and fruit to replace the food until your farm produces another load of food.

*************************************************************************************************************************

Along your journey of exploration, you may come across a tree with an exclamation mark above it.  Click on the exclamation mark and you'll find out that the dirt around the tree looks disturbed and be asked if you want to dig there.  Click okay and you'll find a chest full of gold.  Have Maureen pick up the gold then continue along her journey.  You can also open crates to find food, wood, and gold.

Once you find the gold mine to the south, set up a mining camp and house and employ a few people there.

At some point, Maureen will comment on building a gold mine.  A gold mine produces gold faster than a mining camp.  For now, you can just ignore this.  You'll also receive a request to build a saloon.  We'll wait on this for the moment.  In the southwest corner, you'll run across some bandits.  You will not be able to explore this area right now.

Let's take a moment from our exploration and return to our settled area.  The easiest way to do this is to open your mini map, locate the settled area, then click to create a box in that area.  Close the map and you'll see that area.

By now you should have enough wood to pay off Jack so click on the exclamation mark in the important information area until you see Jack then talk to him and give him 250 wood.  Jack will give you his lumber mill.  You'll need to drag a citizen over to the mill to repair it.  A lumber mill will produce wood at a faster rate than a lumber camp although this also means that the trees will disappear at a faster rate.  Unlike a lumber camp, a lumber mill can gather wood from anywhere so it does not need to be located near a grove of trees.

You're probably running out of housing by now so let's build another farm and a well.  Once built, you can drag new arrivals to the farm to live and work.  You should have one citizen quit their job and begin working at the lumber mill.  Adding another farm will increase the amount of food you can collect so you wont have to empty your coiffeurs completely in order to give food to Clyde.

Once you have enough gold and wood, build a windmill, a general store, and two more wells.  Also build two or three outhouses (scroll to the far right in the buildings list) to help protect against plagues.  Make sure you drag a citizen to the store to have them work there.   Save up more gold and wood and purchase a ranch.  A ranch will produce more food than a farm will and at a faster rate.  It also might be a good idea to build a couple of houses so that you'll be able to attract more citizens to work at the many businesses you now have.

Our next goal is to save enough gold and wood to build a saloon.  Make sure you hire at least one person to work there.  As soon as the saloon is built, you'll be informed that bandits are near town.  After making sure you have a citizen working at the saloon, click on the saloon then click on the gun icon to hire a gunslinger.

Click the icon again to hire a second gunslinger.  Group your gunslingers together and drag them over to fight the bandits.  Have your gunslingers collect the gold left behind after killing the bandits.

The downside to having a saloon is that now your citizens can become drunk.  You'll see a new icon to show you which citizens are drunk.  When a citizen is drunk, they will not work or gather anything.

You'll need to save up enough gold and wood to build a Sheriff's Office.  Once you've built the Sheriff's Office, hire a sheriff for 150 gold.  Drag the sheriff to a drunk citizen and your cursor will change to a moonshine bottle.  Release the mouse button to have the sheriff drag the drunk to jail where he can sleep it off.

Eventually, Maureen will tell you about Harris Pilton arriving in town.  Click on the exclamation mark above Harris' head and you'll learn about his hotels.  You'll need 20 citizens before you'll be able to build hotels.

A new arrival in town will tell you about people who are trapped.

If you check your task list now, you'll see that you need to build a gold mine, give Clyde 40 rations of food, and house 20 citizens.  The citizens will come on their own as long as you have room for them.  Check your population and make sure the last number (15/20) is at least 20.  If it is not, then build a house or two to raise this number.  As for the gold mine, we'll get to that in a moment.  Let's go ahead and give Clyde 40 food rations (you should have enough by now).  He'll leave a pile of gold for you to drag a citizen over to and collect.

You'll get another visitor that tells you about some more people getting trapped.

Let's start with the first one, the one from Far Island.  Click okay to go with him.

Far Island:

Start by clicking on the exclamation mark above Denver Bob's head.  He'll ask you to gather up so wood.  You'll need to build a lumber camp now and employ Israel Creedy there to start gathering up wood.  If you head up north, you'll find a grove of trees where you can build your lumber camp at.  You should get a new arrival in town shortly so both Israel and your new arrival can live and work at the lumber camp.  You might want to take a few minutes to explore the area as well.  You can find gold piles, berry bushes, and fruit trees to the north.  You'll also find some crates you can break open for food and gold.

Once you have enough wood, you're ready to build a bridge.  Click on the exclamation mark above Israel's head.  Click on the general store to the south (you do not need to drag a citizen there) and after a brief explanation about bridges, you'll see the general store's inventory.

The first icon is to purchase dynamite for 50 gold each.  It's currently grayed out because we haven't yet completed the mini quest to access the dynamite.  The second icon is to purchase bridges for 100 gold each.  The third icon is for the irrigation tool and is currently grayed out because we haven't yet completed the mini quest to access the irrigation tool.  For now, click once on the bridge icon to purchase a bridge.  Then click on your toolbox, select the bridge, and drag it to the river.  A bridge must be placed at the edge of a river and have enough room to build.  Move the bridge around until you find a good place for it then click to build it.

Talk to Denver Bob and you'll learn that the people who were trapped on the other side of the river don't trust your bridge.  You'll have to drag Israel to the other side of the bridge to prove it's safe.  Talk to Skip Hale Jr. and the people of Far Island will then cross the bridge.  Now you can explore the little island or simply talk to Skip again to return to Hope River.

Back in Hope River....

At some point, you'll receive a visitor wanting to start a fire brigade.

For now, let's take care of our other task and free the miner's from the collapsed mine.  Cycle through the tasks by clicking on the exclamation mark on the important information area of the screen until you get to the right one and click okay to go with Leonard.

Rubble Trouble:

Talk to Leonard then talk to Wyatt.  Talk to Lucille Carson then make sure your character is close to the general store and talk to Wyatt again.  Talk to Judy, east of the general store.  You'll need to move Marion closer to Judy's location to get the exclamation mark.  Go back to the general store.  Talk to Leonard then click on the general store and buy 2 to 4 dynamite.  North of the general store, you'll see a path blocked by rubble.  Click on your toolbox, click on the dynamite icon, then click in the middle between the rubble piles.  After a moment, the dynamite will set off, unblocking the way.  Next drag Marion up the path to the miners.  You might want to take some time to explore this area before talking to the miners.  Use dynamite to unblock paths blocked by rubble.  When you're finished, talk to the miners twice to return to Hope River.

Back in Hope River....

Secret Level:

This was sent in by a reader:

There is a secret level in Hope River, named “Chicken Run” When you find the miner Clem and his companion, she’ll make a comment about being worried about her pet chicken. The chicken is in the house across the river from the lumber mill.  If you click on the house, it lets the chicken out. You can then walk her down to the miner and when she sees him she wants you to follow her somewhere. I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly what you need to do in Chicken Run, because it was severely bugged last time I played it

The Fire Brigade:

Now we'll take care of the fire brigade task.  If you haven't received this one yet, simply wait until you do then start it.  Click okay to follow Robert.  Talk to Robert then go a little north to the house.  Build a well near the house.  Once the well is built, the house will begin to burn.  Group Robert and Marion then drag them to the burning house.  Your cursor will change to a bucket.  Release the mouse button and Robert and Marion will begin to put out the fire.  Once finished, click on the exclamation mark to head by to Hope River.

Back in Hope River....

John, the drunk, should be sobered up by now.  Talk to him and he'll tell you about the Copperhead Gang.

Make sure you keep an eye on your citizens.  As new citizens arrive, you may need to build more houses or businesses for them to live and work in.

Once you have enough gold and wood, build a gold mine over the gold mine to the far south.  Ol Jim Blarney will arrive after the mine is built and tell you he can show you how to increase productivity on the mine by 50% if you'll give him 50 food rations.  If you have the food rations, go ahead and give them to Jim.  If not, do this once you have obtained enough food.

Save up 1,000 gold to pay Harris Pilton then build a hotel.  While you're saving up the gold for this task, buy a stick of dynamite from the general store then go south, above the new gold mine, and blow up the rock that's blocking the path.  Have a citizen travel the path and in the southeast corner, you'll meet two new people.  After talking, grab the map piece from the ground and break open the crate.  Talk to Clem again and find out about the treasure.

Pay off Harris as soon as possible then build a trading post.  You can sell excess wood at the trading post for some extra gold.  I recommend keeping at least 500 wood and selling anything over that.  Once you have enough gold, build a hotel.

You may have to build a lumber mill before you can build a hotel.  Even though you have the lumber mill that was given to you earlier, I still had to build another lumber mill in order to build the hotel.

Once you've built your hotel, buy a bridge from the general store and scroll over to the lumber mill that was given to you earlier in the game.  Just below that, you should be able to see across the river where there is a red tree.  Place your bridge here then drag a citizen across the bridge to explore.

Doc Vistrokov will eventually show up in your town.  Talk to him.  He'll threaten you.  Talk to Israel to find out that Maureen's been kidnapped and that the bandits are demanding 1,000 gold for her safe return.  Time to start saving up some money again.  If you have built the trading post by now, remember to sell excess wood to gain some more gold.

Hire a sheriff, if needed, and two deputies then group them together and drag them to the southwest corner to fight the bandits.  John Welsh will then ask if you're ready to go after the bandits.  If you still have a sheriff and two deputies, click okay.

Peddler's Canyon:

Group your sheriff and deputies together then head north and talk to Rufus Presley.  Talk to the Sheriff.  As citizens begin showing up, put them to work on repairing the buildings then assign them to work at those buildings.  Make sure you have someone working at the general store.

Once the buildings are repaired, talk to Rufus and find out about the drunks.  It's time to go gather them up.  Drag a deputy to the first drunk who is east and just slightly north of the general store.  Drag another deputy to the second drunk who is in the northeast corner of the map.  Drag the sheriff to the final drunk who is across the bridge to the west of the second drunk then a little southwest from the bridge.  Make sure you talk to each drunk first then drag the deputy/sheriff to the drunk and your cursor will change to a gun.  Release the mouse button and the deputy/sheriff will start to haul the drunk back to the sheriff's office.  Make sure you do not interrupt this process.  Just wait until they're done.

Once the drunks sober up, talk with them.  While you're waiting on the other drunks to be brought to the sheriff's office or to sober up, you can drag a deputy, sheriff, or citizen around the map to explore and get rid of the black "fog" that covers most of the north part of the map.

Talk to Rufus then group together your sheriff, deputies, and the gunslingers (former drunks).  Head north to where you found the second drunk and cross the bridge to the west.  A red arrow will show you where you should take the group.  Talk to the sheriff then you'll head out.

The most common issue here is that upon arriving at the red arrow, nothing happens.  Click on the icon to scroll through all of your fighters.  Every one of them, including the sheriff, has to be in this area.  Most often, you'll find someone down by the general store who will need to be dragged to join the group in the north.

The Magnificent Six:

Drag someone down to talk to Abraham.  You now have two tasks.  The first one is to search for the bandits.  The second one is to keep the sheriff alive.  I have found that the easiest way to do this is to leave the sheriff at the camp and group the deputies and gunslingers together to hunt for the bandits.  As you kill bandits, collect the gold and hire more gunslingers from the camp.  Have the gunslingers meet up with your group then regroup to include the new gunslingers then continue on your journey for bandits.

Start by heading east and killing the three bandits there.  Break open crates (there's also one by the base camp) and gather the loot from the dead bandits.  You should have enough to hire a gunslinger now.  Click on the base camp then click on the gun icon to hire a gunslinger.  Move the gunslinger over to your group then regroup them all together and continue traveling east.  Talk with Willie Dalton then head your group south.  Gather the gold, head a bit south, break open the crates and gather the piles of gold.  You should now have enough gold to hire two more gunslingers.  Click on base camp, hire two more gunslingers then drag them to your posse.  Regroup them all together then head north, above the bridge where you'll find a camp.  Your base camp will now be moved to this location so you wont need to drag new gunslingers as far to catch up with the group.  Head east across the bridge.  Drag someone to the house and your cursor will change to a gun.  Have your posse shoot the house.  Keep an eye on your gold.  Hire gunslingers as you obtain gold and have them join the group.  Follow the path south and deal with the bandits there, remembering to gather wood, gold, and food.  Shoot-up the bandits camp then click on the exclamation mark in the important information area of the screen to talk with the sheriff.  Task complete.

Back in Hope River....

Ransom:

Now it's time to deal with that ransom demand.  Take your sheriff and four or five deputies and/or gunslingers and head north to the bridge you built earlier.  Move the group across the bridge then head southwest.  Kill the bandits then shoot their camp and gather up the gold left behind.  You'll find out that the bandits didn't have Maureen after all and you'll be notified that Maureen has returned to camp.  Click on the exclamation mark and you'll find that Maureen had merely been out exploring.

Hebee Jebee's Treasure:

Now it's time to take care of that treasure map.  Click on the exclamation mark in the important information area of your screen then talk to Clem and click okay.

You'll need to head north of the collapsed mine then west of the fallen tree for this clue.  Just head to the northeast corner of the map and drag a villager around the area where there are rocks.  You'll probably have to blow the rock up with dynamite so you that you can grab the map piece.

As a side note, even while doing tasks and mini quests, you still need to make sure your town is taken care.  Make sure you have enough food, water, housing, jobs, etc.  Build ranches, wells, and houses or hotels as needed.

The next map piece is along the river, on the east side of the river, near the waterfalls.  Drag someone over there, along the riverbank, until the map piece appears.  It should be across from the island in the middle of the river, at the bottom of the cliff (or whatever those raised areas are called).  The map piece will not appear unless you are very near the location where it should be found.

The last map piece is across the river, very near where you built the bridge earlier.  At the northwest side of the map, you'll see four red trees.  Once a citizen approaches, the map piece will appear.  If you have already cut down the trees in this area, I have been told that you can still get the map piece.  You'll just have to drag a citizen around the tree stumps (unless you remember where the four red trees were) until the map piece appears.

Now you'll learn that the treasure lies in the southwest corner of Hope River.  This would be the area where you first encountered the bandits.  Drag a citizen to this area to find the treasure.  Once a citizen enters this area, the treasure will automatically appear.

Now, let's take care of hunting down that Russian who swindled us out of our money.  Click on the exclamation mark in the important information screen area then talk with Reuben Hembre.  Click okay.

It's now time to head out to Lightning Bluff.

Lightning Bluff

You'll find out soon after entering Lightning Bluff that the town isn't what it used to be.  Head north and talk to Simon Whedon.  You'll be given your first task of fixing up the town.  Talk to Max Slocum.

Have your citizens fix up the houses and the Sheriff's office then have your deputy take Max (the drunk) in to sleep "it" off.

Drag someone to the trading post to have him/her work there.

At some point, Jason (the deputy) will be asked to become Sheriff.

Once Max (the drunk is sober) talk to him.  This will unlock new buildings and you'll gain the task of making Lightning Bluff more "civilized."

Build a farm and hire workers.

Now you can drag your deputy around the map to explore and rid the area of that black "fog."  Make sure you collect wood and gold along your journey.  Watch your food supply and pick berries or fruit as needed.

Note that most of the north is "Wong's" territory so you will not be able to explore there.  Along your travels, you'll find the train station to the north.  Talk to The Conductor and you'll learn that you can purchase the train station for 1,000 gold.

Build a lumber camp near a grove of trees then build a mining camp near the gold vein to the far west.  Hire citizens to work the camps.  You might have to wait until you've obtained enough wood before building the mining camp.

Our next goal is to build a general store.

This part of the game is pretty much a waiting game.  Wait until you have enough gold and wood to build the lumber camp, mining camp, and general store.

A bunch of people should show up to help out.  Talk to Alice Slocum and find that she needs 50 food rations.  They'll stay and work until they get the food rations they need.  For now, put them to work in the lumber camp, farm, and mining camp.

Now you'll need to build a ranch and a windmill so that you have enough food storage to give Alice 50 food rations.

Ernestina Dryer will appear at some point.  She'll tell you about her irrigation plans.  Go ahead and go with Ernestina to learn about irrigation.

Irrigation:

Your first task is to build a well.  Build the well just east of where Ernestina is standing.  Now head south to the general store.  You'll learn what types of land you can irrigate.  Irrigation really has nothing to do with water.  It clears dry or rocky land so that you're able to build on it.

You'll need to purchase an irrigation tool from the general store now then talk to Ernestina again.

Go to where Ernestina went to and irrigate a portion of the dry creekbed then build a farm.  You may have to buy another irrigation tool in order to clear enough of the land to build a farm.

Once the farm is built, Ernestina will tell you about Mr. Wong.  When you're ready, talk to Ernestina to head back to Lightning Bluff.

Back in Lightning Bluff....

Let's take a moment to check our task list.  You can find out more information about a task by clicking on it in the top portion of the task list.  The information will then be displayed in the bottom portion of the task list.

Our tasks are:

bullet Gather 50 food rations for the citizens of Hope River.
bullet Gain 1,000 gold to buy the train station.
bullet Build a ranch so Jason will accept the sheriff position.
bullet Build enough civilized buildings to attract ten people from the north to our town.
bullet To find out what's in the hole in the northwest corner of the map.

We're first going to work on the food rations.  Build farms and windmills to increase your maximum capacity then hire workers for the farms.  Once you have 50 food rations saved up, talk to Alice and give her the food.  Each windmill increases your maximum food capacity by about 15.  Note that once you give Alice the food, her and the people that had come with her will leave, so you'll be shorthanded again.

We simply build a ranch to get Jason to accept the sheriff position.  Once the ranch is built, talk to a citizen (I forget which one) and they will ask Jason to take the position.  He'll accept.

Our next goal is to set up a lumber mill.  Once this is completed, hire people to work there.  If you do not have enough citizens, you can have someone quit their job and then drag them to the lumber mill to work.  At this point, trees are abundant in Lightning Bluff so we can use this to our advantage by collecting wood then selling it to the trading post for gold.

Now lets save up some money and wood and build several water towers around town.  Water towers reduce the risk of fires and drought.  I would recommend building at least three water towers.

Build two or three outhouses to reduce the risk of plague.

Build a saloon and hire a BUNCH of gunslingers.  The minute you start building "civilized" buildings and/or buy the train station, you'll start getting attacked by bandits.  Keep six or more gunslingers around the train station to protect it then have at least another six gunslingers wandering around your town to protect where needed.  You might want to wait until you have quite a bit of gold saved up before you attempt this because, most likely, the bandits will begin appearing once the saloon is built so you'll need to hire gunslingers quickly.  Eight gunslingers can be positioned around the train station so that you'll have every angle covered.  Bandits could appear from ANY direction.

After you build 5 outhouses, you'll probably get a notice about one of the outhouses being "surprisingly roomy."  Check it out.  Congratulations!  You just found a secret level.  Talk to Pierre Crockett.  You'll learn that you need to blow up buildings and outhouses to find Pierre's friend.  Buy LOTS of dynamite from the general store and start setting them off.  Usually, I find the friend in an outhouse to the north.  You can explore the area to get rid of the fog while simultaneously setting off dynamite.  Remember that you do not need someone to set off the dynamite.  Simply get it from your toolbox and set it wherever you want an explosion.  Place the dynamite on the ground between buildings to blow up several buildings at once.  Note that it usually takes two dynamite sticks to destroy a building (like a saloon) and only one for an outhouse.  Setting off dynamite to one side of the building to blow up the outhouses then setting off another stick on the other side of the building to blow up more outhouses will generally result in the building in the middle being destroyed.  Place your dynamite strategically to maximize the damage in as little time as possible.  Once you've found the friend, talk to him and you'll head back to Hope River.

Back in Hope River....

Continue caring for your town.  Add houses, hotels, farms, ranches, lumber mills, and gold mines as needed.  Also continue adding water towers, windmills, and outhouses.  Hire gunslingers and deputies until you have at least eight surrounding the train station and at least six wandering around the town.  You might want to place your town gunslingers around the outskirts of the town so that you'll be prepared regardless of which direction the bandits come from.

Gather some gunslingers in a group and prepare for a fight.  Build a church, which will attract two more northerners, but also bring in some bandits.  We'll now focus on the task of bringing ten northerners to the area.  Watch your gold, sell wood when you can, and buy the train station as soon as possible.  Keep a close watch on your town because bandits will strike often.

Once you buy the train station, get a citizen to repair it.

You'll then need to send the sheriff to see what's holding up the train.  Talk to Simon Whedon and click okay.

Train Delay:

Start by exploring the immediate area and breaking open crates for gold.  Talk to Noah Parrish.  Take the two deputies (group them together) to the west, following the train tracks.  Talk to the sheriff.  Unfortunately, there is nobody to run the general store so we're unable to buy dynamite at the moment.  Take your sheriff and deputies along the path north then west of the general store and get rid of the bandits there.  Collect the gold and food then continue west.  Eliminate the next group of bandits and collect the gold.  Talk to Carmelita and she'll head back to the general store.

Take your sheriff and deputies back to the general store.  Buy a stick of dynamite and hire three gunslingers from the saloon.  Group the deputies and gunslingers together and follow the tracks to the west.  I left my sheriff at the general store so he wouldn't get killed, although you can take your sheriff if you want.

Blow up the boulder blocking the train tracks.  Continue west and find that the train has no conductor.  Continue west again.  Next to the river, south of the tracks, kill the bandits and shoot their camp.  Collect the gold and break open any crates.  Shoot the outhouse to free the conductor.

Talk to Vincent Wiggin.  Once the conductor gets back to the train, he'll offer you a ride back to Lightning Bluff.  Click okay.

Back in Lightning Bluff....

Talk to Vincent Wiggins.

Build a blacksmith's and hire someone to work there.

Continue below to complete the "Northerners" task.

Northerners:

To attract people from the north, you'll need to build certain buildings.  You'll get your first northerner when you build a water tower.

Build a church to bring in two more northerners.

Build a town hall to bring in two more northerners.

Buy then repair the train station to bring in one more northerner.

Build a blacksmith's to bring in two more northerners.

Lastly, build a bank.

Once the bank is built, prepare for a massive assault from bandits.  They usually come from the north, by the train station.  After the first wave has been defeated, you'll get a second wave.  Defeat them as well.  You'll then learn that the bandits seem to be coming from a saloon up north.

The Rabbit Hole:

To the east, follow the train tracks, you'll find a guy and a rabbit pen south of the tracks.  Agree to buy a rabbit from him.  You'll now be able to control the rabbit.  Click on the rabbit then drag it over to the hole with something shiny in it to the far west.   The rabbit will dig out the treasure.  Drag a citizen up to collect it.

***NOTE***
I didn't have any problems with the rabbit task during my first game.  However, when I played Westward again with a new game, I never got the option to talk to the guy at the rabbit pen.  He would just stand there and no exclamation mark would appear above him.  Just to note, you can still complete the Lightning Bluff level without having to take care of the rabbit thing.  Just skip over that task.

***NOTE***
Submitted by a reader:
The farmer who gave up his farm to sell rabbits, if you don't click on the desolate farmhouse
first, the exclamation point will not appear above his head.

Talk to Hiram Drummond.  He needs your help.  Agree to help him.

Sweetwater Springs:

Shortly after you arrive in Sweetwater Springs, you'll get your first citizen.  Have him repair the saloon and have the mayor repair the bank.  Next have your citizen repair the house to the north.  Hire the citizen to work at the saloon then hire as many gunslingers as you can afford.  You can explore the area a little to gather gold, wood, and food.  Use the gold to hire more gunslingers.  Stick close to the bank and wait for the bandits to attack.

Build a well followed by a farm to keep everyone fed.  Build a mining camp to the east near the gold vein.  Make sure you hire citizens to work the farm and the mining camp.

Build a lumber mill and hire someone to work there.  Then build a trading post to help with food shortages and to sell excess wood to for some extra gold.

The goal here is to make sure the citizens are taken care of (food, water, housing, employment) and simply wait, defeating bandits as they come, until the town has 15 citizens.

Tip:  The bandits usually come from the south so create a row of gunslingers below the town so that the fight will occur there.  This will save from the buildings getting shot up.  You might have at least one time where a bandit comes from the east and attacks the mining camp.  Take care of him quickly before he destroys the gold vein.

Once the population reaches 15 and you've defeated the last big wave of bandits, you'll be returned to Lightning Bluff.

Back in Lightning Bluff....

Buy an irrigation tool from the general store then use it on the path up north that leads to the "Wong side of the track."

Take a posse up north.  Use a couple of sticks of dynamite (buy at the general store) and clear the path blocked in the northeast corner of the map.

Defeat the bandits and shoot their camp, collecting the gold as you go.  Buy a bridge from the general store and build a bridge in the north corner out to the island.  You'll find a gold vein there.  Build a gold mine over the vein and hire people to work there.

Now it's time to go after Wong.

Talk to Simon Whedon and click okay.

Wong Way:

Talk to Kaylee Waldon.

Head north then west and take out the bandits.  Go south a little ways and find the general store.  Pick up the gold and break open the crate then continue west along the path.

Take out the bandits then head south.  Talk to Otis Gilliam.  Use your map and locate the general store.  Close the mini map and buy two sticks of dynamite.  Use your map again and highlight the southwest corner then close the map.  Use a stick of dynamite on the fence.  Add these two to your group.

Head north and you'll find two more people fenced in.  Talk to them then use the dynamite on the fence.  Add these two to your group.  Make sure Simon and Kaylee are at the back of the group.  If their health gets too low, select them only and move them elsewhere then continue on with the remainder of your posse.

Head north and take out Wong's gang.  Personally, I find it easier to go straight through than to go around to the east.  You'll probably lose most of your gunslingers here.

Talk to Clive Sawyer.  The sheriff will take off.  Talk to Clive again.

Level complete.

Back in Lightning Bluff....

Talk to James Frank and click okay.

Level complete.

Now let's head to Paradise Falls.

Paradise Falls

You are going to need a WHOLE LOT of patience for this one!  Keeping your people from starving and with constant droughts and fires, this is a difficult level to do.

Talk to Mr. Wong.  Mr. Wong will slip away.  Talk to Rancid Crabapple.  Talk to Rancid again and he'll tell you to build him a mining camp then he'll sell you his store.  Talk to Bill Brown.

Explore the area a little.  To the south and west talk to Oldman Murray.  He'll tell you about Stinky Pete to the south.

Head to the northeast corner of the map and build a lumber camp, a mining camp, and a saloon.  You start with three people so hire Rancid Crabapple for the mining camp, one of your citizens to work the lumber mill, and the other to work the saloon so that you can hire gunslingers.  You will probably have to put both citizens at the lumber camp then have one quit their job to go to the saloon since they need housing before they'll work.  Build at least one well since fires break out often in such dry climate.

Hire three gunslingers then head to the southeast corner and take out the bandits and their camp.  Gather the food, wood, and gold.  You'll notice a large tree area and a gold mine.  We'll get to this later.

Have your gunslingers explore the area and pick up food as needed.  Hire the next citizen that shows up to work at the general store.  You'll need to house him/her first at one of the camps then have him/her quit and go to work at the general store instead.  Buy one or two irrigation tools.

To the west, you'll find an area that has a couple of small puddles of water.  Use an irrigation tool on the dry riverbed and build a farm there.  Hire people as they came in, filling up the farm first, then rotate between the lumber camp and the mining camp.  If you run out of housing, build a house.  Build a well nearby.

Once you have enough wood and gold saved up, buy a trading post.  We'll buy food here as needed and sell any excess wood for gold.

That being done, save enough wood and gold to build a lumber mill to the southeast where that grove of trees is.  You'll probably have to build to the west of the trees and may need an irrigation tool before placing the lumber mill.

Make sure all of your buildings, including the general store, has a well nearby.  Fires break out quickly in this dry climate.

To the south, near where the bandits were, you'll find Colin Starr.  Talk to him and he'll tell you about Stinky Pete.  Once you have 300 wood saved up, talk to Colin again and click okay to go find Stinky Pete and find out about his fertilizer.

Fertilizer:

Talk to Colin Starr.  Group Colin and the wagon together then head north.  When the path narrows, you'll be told the wagon wont fit through.
There are two paths to the west where you can find gold.  One is shown on the map below; the red boxed area.  The other is just below that.  Take Colin north, after you've gotten the gold piles, then west to the general store.  Buy a stick of dynamite.  Use the dynamite on the boulders just south of the general store.  Bring the wagon up that path.  Group Colin and the wagon together then head north of the general store then west to find Stinky Pete; shown as a blue spot to the northwest on the map below.

Talk to Stinky Pete and click okay.

Level complete.

The most common issue with the Stinky Pete level is that the "Okay" button for Stinky Pete is grayed out.  Make sure BOTH Colin and the wagon are at Stinky Pete's.  Also, make sure you gather the gold piles so that you do not have to sell wood to the general store in order to buy the dynamite.  You need to have 300 wood.  If you've already sold wood, go gather the gold piles to the west then buy more wood from the trading post to the east.

Back in Paradise Falls....

To the far west you'll find a berry bush.  North of this, you'll find a few more berry bushes and a fruit tree.  Near the middle of the screen, you'll find a group of people.  Talk to Alan Bellinger then to Jedadiah Gibbs.  They want 30 water rations.

To the south, just south and slightly west of Oldman Murray, you'll find a piece of a map.  Head to the northeast corner of the map, just above the gold vein and pick up the second piece of the map.  Go to the southeast corner of the map and you'll find a bunch of bones lying on the ground.  You'll also find the third map piece.  Pick it up.  Now head northwest.  If you check your mini map, you'll see a couple of little water areas.  This is where we found the berry bushes and fruit trees earlier.  Grab the map piece.  What a shame!  It wasn't a treasure map after all!

Buy a stick of dynamite from the general store and use it on the boulders blocking the path at the southwest corner.  Talk to Benton Washington then drag him to the mining camp.

At some point, you'll be able to talk to Marshall Turnman at the train station.  He'll offer to sell the train station to you for 1,000 gold.

Then we wait a very long time again until we have enough gold and wood to build a water tower.  Build at least three water towers then once they're full, talk to the gunslingers in the middle of the map and give them 30 water rations.  They'll then offer to join you.

As I said earlier, you need to be very patient for this level because it takes a long time to gather enough resources to build anything.

At some point, you'll learn someone fell down a well.  You'll need 100 wood for the scaffolding.  Once you have the wood, talk to Bill Brown and click okay.  You'll save the kid and get 50 fish from him, although you wont have room to hold all of the fish so some will go to waste.  This will, however, keep us from needing to buy more food for awhile.

Our next goal is to save 1,000 gold to buy the train station.  Once purchased, have someone start repairing it.

Buy a stick of dynamite and place it on the boulder just south of the gazebo in the center of the map.  You'll then learn that there are stairs going underneath the gazebo.  Check it out to find a secret level.

Secret Level:

Talk to Thaddius Orton and you'll learn that you need to build bridges and find his teeth.

This requires a lot of bridges to be built.  Buy bridges and a couple of dynamite sticks from the general store then build a bridge just south of the general store.  Continue building bridges east and you'll see gold teeth on a few islands.  Pick them up.  Head south when you can and start building bridges back across the west to find the remaining teeth.

Once completed, you'll have found a secret spring and your water production will increase.

Back in Paradise Falls....

Build a ranch when you can and employ people to work there.  You will probably need to irrigate first so that you have somewhere to place the ranch.  Make sure you build a water tower nearby.

Next we'll save up money and wood to build a Blacksmith's, a Sheriff's Office, then a Town Hall, and finally a Bank.

Remember to buy food from the trading store when needed and that you can also sell excess wood to the trading store when you have it.

Once your bank has been built, bandits will threaten to rob it.  Group together all of your gunslingers and have them surround the bank.

Hire a massive amount of gunslingers and position groups of them near the train station and near your original lumber camp was built.  Bandits will arrive in large numbers from both the north and the south.  Hire gunslingers as needed and take out the bandits.  Repair or rebuild as needed.

Once defeated, you'll be asked about getting the "ole posse" back together.

Make sure the town is set for food, water, housing, and employment then talk to Bill Brown and click okay to get the posse back together.

Getting the Posse back together:

You'll find Lord Derby slightly west of your starting position.  Group the Brown brothers together and head west.  Note that in the task list, you are required to keep the Brown brothers together so always move them as a group.

Now you'll need to find Lord Derby's lucky horseshoes.  One is west of his house.  Another one is north of his house and the third one is just west of the second one.  The last one is north of the third one.  Once gathered, Lord Derby will tell you he's headed back to Paradise Falls.  Just northeast of where you found the last horseshoe, you'll find Beefalo Cody William.  He'll need some chickens and he'll give you deputy uniforms.

One chicken is near the hotel and you should automatically start shooting at it.  Head north of the hotel and you'll find the rest of the chickens.  Cody will head back to Paradise Falls.

To the east you'll find Jalisco County III.  He'll need 50 wood.  There's a pile of wood north of the lumber camp you can pick up.  Then you'll need to work at the lumber camp.  Once you've collect 50 wood, Jalisco will head off to Paradise Falls.

Level Complete.

Back in Paradise Falls....

The boys are out rounding up the posse and the girls have their own plan.  Welcome to Ladies' Night.

Ladies' Night:

To the northwest, build a lumber camp near the grove of trees.  Just slightly northeast of your starting position, build a mining camp near the gold vein.  Once the lumber camp is built, you'll have two more ladies arrive.  Once the mining camp is built, another two ladies will join you.  Put two workers at that lumber camp and two workers at the mining camp.  To the north, below the trees, build a well.  Below this, build a farm.  Put the other two ladies to work at the farm.  Once the farm is built, two more ladies will show up.  Hire one for the lumber camp and one for the mining camp.

Georgia Muth will then announce it's time to head out.  Click okay.

Now you'll need to deal with the mad Russians.  Four of your ladies, in disguise of course, should be grouped together.  Take them north of the trees to begin the fight.  Take out the deputies then shoot up the bank.  A group of deputies will arrive (probably from the north).  Take them out then you'll head back to Paradise Falls.

Level Complete.

Back in Paradise Falls....

The posse finds out that someone beat them to dealing with the Russian's bank.  Time for our next task.

Paying a Visit:

After some initial talking, you'll need to hire four deputies.  Make sure your town is taken care of (food, water, housing, and employment) then head to the train station and click okay.

You'll head to the "Mad Russian's Valley."  Your tasks here are to keep the Sheriff alive, shoot up the buildings in the town, and to defeat the Copperheads.

Leave your Sheriff at the base camp, then head west then south and shoot the blacksmith's then defeat the Copperheads and collect the wood and gold.

The goal here is simply.  Shoot every building you find, including the gazebo and outhouses.  Then defeat the bandits that come out of those buildings.

Pick berries when needed for food.  Since your Sheriff is safe and sound at the base camp, he can go around finding food.

Hire deputies as needed.

After you destroy enough buildings (or maybe certain buildings?), you'll see a conversation.

Level Complete.

Back in Paradise Falls...

Paradise Falls is gone?

Talk to Ted Brown.

Your goal is to keep the Sheriff alive, gather 300 gold, 300 wood, and 30 food.

Head west then follow the river north, collect wood and gold as you go.  Click on the general store then have someone repair it.

While the repairs are underway, group the sheriff and someone else together then head west then south.  Gather the wood by the train tracks and the pile of gold near the river.  Continue south, following the river then head west.  Make sure you stay north of the bandits.  Click on the house to acquire it then have someone repair it.  Move your citizens into the house.  Hire someone to work at the general store then buy a bridge.  Have the sheriff take out the bandits to the south.  Your sheriff can also gather the food, wood, and gold in this area, as well as the southwest corner.

Build a bridge in the northeast corner, near the waterfall.  Make sure you build your bridge at the edge of the land, as far south of the waterfall as possible.  Take someone across the bridge and click on the saloon to acquire it and a gunslinger.  Grab the gold, wood, and food with the gunslinger while you have someone (whoever you brought across the bridge) repair the saloon then go to work there.

Buy another bridge from the general store and build a bridge south of the saloon.  You'll need to be careful here.  Check the map below.  Build low enough to go across to the corner without stopping at the island in the middle, but high enough to catch the land marked "Build Farm Here" on the map below, and NOT to the lumber camp.  Just below the Saloon is a red tree.  If you build the bridge just above that tree, you should be good to go.

While repairs are being made, briefly switch over to your sheriff and have him go west to the windmill.  Click on the windmill to acquire it.  Below the windmill is a path south.  (Note that it is not the last path to the west, as the map below appears to show, but the NEXT TO THE LAST PATH to the west).  Go there and find the lost deputy.  Have your deputy head north to the lumber camp.  You will find bandits throughout the map so keep an eye on the sheriff's health.  Leave the sheriff behind, if needed, and use the deputy and/or the gunslinger found at the saloon to finish exploring the area.  Once you reach the lumber camp, click on it to acquire it.  Drag someone over here to repair it then hire people to work here.

In the meantime, drag someone across the bridge that you built near the saloon and have him/her explore the area to rid it of the black fog.  As soon as possible, build a farm here and hire people to work it.  You'll have to build a well first.  Food is in VERY short supply here so you'll need the farm to start operating as soon as possible.

Once you have 100 gold, buy another bridge from the general store and place it between the lumber camp and the windmill so that it goes to the large island where the trading post is located.  Click on the trading post to acquire it then have someone repair it then go to work there.

As I'm sure you've noticed, there is no gold vein here and the trees are limited.  Your most immediate task is to make sure everyone has food.  Then, as quickly as possible, save up 30 food, 300 gold, and 300 wood, then click on the barrels to add them.

You'll most likely have to add another farm in order to supply enough food.  Once the lumber camp you found has exhausted all of the trees in that area, destroy it and build another farm just south of there.

Look all around the map and build lumber camps anywhere you can near trees.  We'll need to sell wood to the trading post for food and gold.

Build houses when needed.

Don't spend gold or wood on anything that isn't absolutely necessary.

Once you have collected enough gold, wood, and food, the bandit, "Scared Sheep" Brackenridge will show up to talk.

Now we'll need to come up with another 400 gold.  Continue chopping trees wherever possible, buy food only when absolutely necessary, and save up 400 gold as quickly as possible.  Sell wood to the trading post for gold.

Okay, now it's time to pay the bandit 400 gold and head out.

Copperhead Canyon:

After some talking, you'll be given the option of changing the sheriff into bandit clothing.  Choose okay.

Head just a little west then follow the path south.  Head east and talk to Jonah Chitwood.  Just east of Jonah, talk to "Boss" Gilliam.  Talk to "Boss" again.

In the center of the map, you'll find a general store.  Scout around the area for gold piles and once you have 100 gold, buy a bridge from the general store.

Go to the southeast corner and you'll be informed that you need to cross the river to get to the exit.  Build the bridge here then head up north center and take your sheriff over to the horse.  You'll find that its been stolen.  Drag your group to the hotel to the center far west.  Click on the exclamation mark above the hotel to have your sheriff change back into his uniform.  Head north, past the drunk, and talk to the "Boss."  The bandit next to her will attack.  Take care of him.  Regroup to include the "Boss" and head to the southeast bridge you built.  Have everyone cross and go to the red arrow.

Level complete.

If nothing happens when you reach the red arrow, make sure you have everyone, including the "Boss," the sheriff, and your deputies at that spot.

Note that all of the little side tasks, like giving food to the drunk, saving the guy trapped across the river, and freeing the gunslingers, are nothing more than a waste of resources.  Don't even bother.  Also, if you save the guy across the river, bandits will destroy the general store and you'll be unable to build a bridge to reach the end.

Russian Town:

The task here is to keep your sheriffs alive.

Talk to Sylas Hibbert.

Follow the river northeast to the top of the map and you'll find the hotel and a saloon.  We'll use the saloon to hire gunslingers when we collect enough gold.

Talk to Ellie Blanchett.  You'll learn that for 50 gold, you can rest and restore health.

The goal is to reach the mine and keep the sheriffs alive.  Hire gunslingers if needed.  Once you reach the mine, talk to Ambrose Borden.

You'll now have some unemployed citizens.  Hire one of them to work at the general store and hire the rest for the gold mine.

Talk to the guy by the general store and learn that you need to clean up the bandit camps.

Hire as many gunslingers as possible (I had enough gold by this time to hire 5 of them).

Shoot the bandit camps (one west of the mine, near the general store, and two north of the mine, near the grove of trees).  Talk to Kurt Barnes when done.

Build a lumber camp just north of the gold mine.  We'll use the lumber to sell to the trading post to the north so that we can buy food for our citizens.

Now it's time to head northwest.  Take your gunslingers (leave the sheriffs by the mine for safety) up northwest and follow the train tracks across the river.  Head north and talk to Amos Ford.  You'll need 600 gold to buy the TNT.  Look around for gold piles or wait for the mine to produce more gold.  Note that you may need to send someone out scouting for berries to keep people from leaving due to hunger.

Once you have the 600 gold, talk to Amos again.

Talk to Sheriff Jenkins.

You'll now be shown where to place the TNT.  Unfortunately, only the sheriffs can set the TNT.  Have your gunslingers go clear out the bandits and have your sheriffs follow behind them at a safe distance so they will not join in the fight.

You'll need to buy 2 dynamite sticks from the general store to blow up the fences in order to get in to the bandits.

Once the bandits are defeated, place the sheriffs in position and they'll place the charges and blow the canyon walls.  The picture below shows you about where to position the sheriffs.

After a moment, the Mad Russian will appear.  Just wait for this event.  Talk to him.

Take your gunslingers over to deal with the bandits.

Talk to the Mad Russian again.

Level complete.

Talk to everyone as you head east through town.

The End!

Congratulations!

Tips and Tricks

bullet Save your game in a new slot at the beginning of each level, task, or mini quest and at the end of each level, task, or mini quest.
bullet In Russian Town, the northeast corner contains treasure.  However, every game I've played, if you try to irrigate that area to get to the treasure, the game crashes.
bullet When dealing with hunger issues, try building a logging camp followed by a trading post.  You can sell wood to the trading post then buy food with the gold.
bullet Water towers hold more water than wells.
bullet Dynamite, bridges, and irrigation tools can be bought at a general store.  Dynamite costs 50 gold each while bridges and irrigation tools cost 100 gold each.
bullet Don't waste money on buildings that aren't absolutely needed.
bullet A ranch provides food faster than a farm but requires wood to operate.
bullet If you're having trouble completing a task, read the instructions for that task under the task list.  Sometimes it's merely a slight overlook as to what you're supposed to do.
bullet When you're supposed to keep someone alive, leave them behind.  Use deputies and gunslingers instead.
bullet Gunslingers cost less than deputies or sheriffs.  Sheriffs cost 100 gold, deputies cost 150 gold, and gunslingers cost 75 gold.  Sheriffs and deputies can be hired from a sheriff's office but gunslingers need to be hired from a saloon.
